About Us

Nestled in the Crescent Beach community of Niantic, CT our blessed community is the ideal place to begin your recovery journey. If you or a family member is willing to take the steps necessary to begin a new way of life we would be honored to be a part of it.

Why the first year of recovery is so important?

  • Physical and Mental Healing: The body and brain need time to heal from the effects of substance abuse. The first year is a critical phase for this recovery.
  • High Relapse Risk: The initial period of sobriety is when a person is most vulnerable to relapse. Cravings, triggers, and old habits are still powerful.
  • Building a New Life:
    • Establishing Healthy Routines: Creating a new daily schedule with healthy habits like exercise, good sleep, and proper nutrition.
    • Developing Coping Mechanisms: Learning how to deal with emotions, stress, and triggers in a healthy way (e.g., through therapy, mindfulness, or a support group).
    • Repairing Relationships: Rebuilding trust with family and friends that may have been damaged by addiction.
    • Finding a New Identity: Rediscovering hobbies, interests, and passions that were lost to substance abuse.
  • The Power of Milestones: Completing the first year is a major milestone that builds confidence and reinforces a person’s commitment to sobriety. It proves to the individual that they have the strength and ability to overcome their addiction and that the challenges were worth the effort.

A more detailed understanding of our Program at the Design for living Sober House:

A Detailed Look Inside Design for Living Sober House: A Foundation for Lasting Recovery: Located in the serene coastal town of Niantic, CT, the Design for Living Sober House is more than just a place to live—it’s a structured, supportive community designed to bridge the gap between treatment and long-term, independent sobriety. We provide a safe and accountable environment where residents can apply the principles of recovery to their daily lives.

Our Structured Program & Policies:Family Communication: We understand that recovery is a family journey. With the resident’s consent, we offer family check-in reporting so loved ones can be updated on your progress and well-being.

Staged Requirements: Our program is built on a phased approach to foster independence. We start with a high level of accountability, including a staged set of requirements that ease as you demonstrate progress. Your performance will be reviewed weekly to ensure you are on track with your recovery goals.

12-Step Immersion: We believe in the power of community and a solid recovery framework. For the first 60 days, residents are required to attend a minimum of five local 12-step meetings per week. This policy helps you build a strong support network and become an active member of the local recovery community.

Daily Accountability: To maintain a safe and sober environment, a strict daily sign-in and out policy is in effect. This ensures we always know who is in the house and helps residents practice responsibility and transparency.

Foundational Recovery Work: Within your first 90 days, you are required to secure a sponsor and begin working through the 12 steps. This critical component of our program is essential for personal growth and sustained sobriety.

  • Accommodations & Pricing: Private Rooms for Personal Space: Unlike many sober living homes, we offer all single rooms to provide residents with the privacy and personal space necessary for self-reflection and healing.
  • Affordable and Transparent Pricing: Our weekly rates start at $185, with prices varying based on the size of the single room. This model allows us to offer a range of options to meet different budgets while maintaining a high standard of living.

Community & Activities:

Our program extends beyond the house, fostering a vibrant and active community. We believe that a life in recovery should be joyful and fulfilling. Our residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of house-sponsored events, including:

  • Weekly house meetings to address community needs and build camaraderie.
  • Summer cookouts and recovery-focused fireside gatherings held five times throughout the season.
  • Summer activities like beach volleyball and pickleball to promote physical and mental health.
  • Community-building service opportunities, such as speaking commitments at local rehabs, allowing residents to give back and share their experience, strength, and hope.

Responsibilities: Residents are required to take an active role in maintaining our shared living space. A system of weekly chores and house responsibilities ensures a clean, organized, and respectful environment for all. This accountability helps residents build essential life skills for independent living in sobriety.
